YNA is currently recruiting for a full-time permanent Medical Educator to join the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) – a prestigious institution dedicated to advancing surgical practice through high-quality education, training, and research. This is a very exciting position that can be located at any of the RACS offices across Australia or New Zealand with a flexible hybrid work environment. 

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Medical Educator who will provide expert advice and practical support to ensure that RACS education programs and resources are effective, innovative, and aligned with strategic goals. This role will focus on teaching professional development courses, enhancing the skills of our surgical education faculty, and contributing to the ongoing improvement of our training and assessment programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Educational Expertise: Provide education and training advice to the Education Development and Design portfolio, ensuring that programs incorporate evidence-based education principles and effective andragogical approaches.
  • Course Delivery: Lead the delivery of professional development courses for RCS faculty, supervisors, and Specialist International Medical Graduates (SIMG).
  • Facilitation and Enhancement: Enhance the facilitation skills and teaching quality of RCS surgical education faculty through professional development activities.
  • Quality Assurance and Innovation: Contribute to the ongoing quality assurance and development of best practice education, training, and assessment programs across RCS portfolios.
  • Project Coordination: Coordinate the RCS Supervision Project to align education and training services for surgical supervisors (trainee and SIMG).
  • Committee Involvement: Actively participate in relevant education portfolio committee activities in the capacity of Medical Educator.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including subject matter experts, professional development faculty, and senior examiners.
  • Compliance and Accreditation: Contribute to projects that assist in meeting Australian Medical Council (AMC) accreditation requirement

Qualifications and Experience

  • Educational Background: Master’s degree in Health Education (MSc) or an equivalent qualification with a health profession background of Nursing or Allied Health
  • Professional Experience: Extensive experience in the design, delivery, and evaluation of professional development programs, particularly within a health or surgical context.
  • Training and Assessment: Proven experience in facilitating educator training, delivering peer feedback, and implementing both formative and summative assessments.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Communication Skills: High-level written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to foster relationships and work collaboratively.
  • eLearning: Experience in the design, development, and evaluation of eLearning packages is desirable.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to travel and work outside of standard hours, including weekends, as required.
